Today, May 17, 2017, is Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) Awareness Day in Michigan. We recently had the opportunity to talk to Amanda Ruddy about her son Tommy‘s battle with DIPG.
DIPG is a brain tumor that is typically diagnosed in children between the ages of 5-7. There are about 300-350 new cases per year in the United States. The median survival rate for those diagnosed with DIPG is only 9 months. The disease is considered to be “rare” so very little funding is allocated to researching treatment options. This is why we need to raise awareness of Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gliomaar.
